FEBRUARY, 1909.

10th. Opened the Diocesan Convention and celebrated Holy Communion, the Rev. S. B. Carpenter preaching the sermon.
Called the Convention to order and presided over its deliberations during the morning and a portion of the afternoon.
Made an address to the annual meeting of the Woman’s Auxiliary.
11th. Presided over the Convention morning and afternoon and delivered my Annual Address.
12th. Conferred with the Rev. Mr. Woodward and the Rev. Mr. Mellichampe with regard to their work. P.M., presided at a meeting of the Board of Missions.
14th. In Holy Trinity Church, Gainesville, Fla., baptized Dorothy, daughter of the Rev. Francis H. and Mary Reese Craighill and assisted in Morning Prayer.

6th. Visited and inspected the property of Christ Church with Rev. Messrs. P. M. Prescott and G. S. Whitney. This mission has a line opportunity for settlement work, and we hope that we may be able to establish it permanently on that basis.

7th. Second Sunday in Lent, Augusta, Good Shepherd. Instituted the Rev. Mr. Johnson into the rectorship and preached, the Rev. Mr. Cook assisting in the service.

8th. Attended to correspondence and conferred with the clergy of Augusta about the maintenance of the work at Christ Church, securing pledges from them for its support.

20th. Savannah. Examined the Rev. Henry Lester Durrant for ordination to the Priesthood in the presence of the Rev. Dr. Strong and the Rev. Mr. Dakin.
21st. fourth Sunday in Lent, St. John’s Church, Savannah. Ordained the Rev. Henry Lester Durrant to the Priesthood and celebrated the Holy Communion. The candidate was presented by the Rev. Dr. Strong and the sermon preached by the Rev. Arthur R. Gray, of Sewanee, Tenn., and these two, with the Rev. Mr. Dakin, assisted in the laying on of hands. P.M., at St. Paul’s Church I preached, the Rev. Mr. Durrant reading Evening Prayer.
22nd. Conferred with the Rev. Richard Bright with reference to his appointment as Archdeacon for the colored Work of the Diocese, and on his acceptance appointed him thereto. 12:00 M. addressed the Noon Lenten Service in Christ Church. 2:00 P. M., attended a luncheon in the Y.M.C.A. Building with the workers in the effort to secure $55,000 for a building and made a short address. 8:00 P.M., left for Marietta.
23-26th. Correspondence and other business. Left for Albany and Thomasville.
24th. Issued letter to the Standing Committee withdrawn from them the Ecclesiastical Authority of the Diocese.
27th. Albany. Spent the day with the Rev. Mr. Wright and family and with him visited and inspected the Church and Parish School of St. John’s Church, the Rev. C. B. Pritchett in charge. The work of this mission is encouraging and ought to be maintained, though funds for that purpose contributed through Bishop Nelson have been withdrawn, and some means must be found to supplement them. 4:00 P.M., left for Thomasville.
28th. Fifth Sunday in Lent, St. Thomas’ Church, Thomasville. Preached and confirmed eleven persons and addressed the candidates, the Rev. G. A. Cornell, Rector, reading Morning Prayer. P.M., preached at the Church of the Good Shepherd, the Rev. J. S. Simmons, in charge, reading Evening Prayer.
29th. Visited and inspected the Parish School of the Church of the Good Shepherd and conferred with the minister in charge about his work. Found the school building in good condition and the discipline of the school excellent. P.M., met and conferred with t he Rev. J. H. Woodward, Vicar, at Bainbridge, about his work there and at Cuthbert. Left for Marietta.
30th. Left Atlanta for Montgomery.
31st. Attended a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of the South in Montgomery at the residence of the Rev. Mr. McQueen.

APRIL, 1909.

1st. On this day resumed Ecclesiastical Authority of the Diocese. Left Montgomery for Atlanta, stopping a day in Lagrange, Ga.
2nd. Evening Prayer and address in St. James’ Church, Marietta, in the Rector’s absence.
3rd. Attended to correspondence and left for Savannah at night.
4th. Sixth Sunday in Lent. St. John’s Church, Savannah, confirmed fifty persons, presented by the Rector; addressed them, preached and celebrated the Holy Communion, the Rev. Dr. Strong and the Rev. Mr. Dakin assisting in the service. P. M., confirmed fourteen, addressed the candidates and preached at St. Stephen’s Church; presented by the Rector, the Rev. Richard Bright.
5th. Presided at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Missions; conferred with Mr. E. S. Elliott, Secretary, on various matters of business, and signed a deed as President of the Corporation and Bishop in the proceedings for the foreclosure of a mortgage. P. M., attended Evening Prayer at St. John’s Church and at night left for Marietta.

10th. 12:00 M., addressed Midday Lenten service at Christ Church. 4:00 P. M., St. John’s Church, confirmed four, presented by the Rector, and addressed them. Went to Pineora.
11th. Easter Day. Celebrated the Holy Communion and preached at Holy Trinity Church, Pineora, Mr. T. D. Heyward, Lay Reader, assisting in Morning Prayer. P. M., Savannah, St. Paul’s Church, confirmed twelve, addressed them and preached, the Rev. S. P. McGlohon, Rector, reading Evening Prayer.

Accepted letter dimissory of the Rev. Frederick North-Tummon from the Missionary District of South Dakota, sent to him the Canonical Certificate and notified the Secretary of the Diocese. Mr. North-Tummon was appointed Vicar at Fitzgerald.
14th. Dictated letters. Received notice of the deposition by the Bishop of California of the Rev. Payson Young.

16th. Waynesboro, 9:30 A. M. Celebrated Holy Communion in St. Michael’s Church and preached, the Rev. C. W. Frazer, of Savannah, assisting.
7:30 P. M. Rev. Mr. Frazer read Evening Prayer and I confirmed two, addressed them and preached; made several calls during the day.
17th. Savannah. Wrote letter to the Board of Missions, New York, asking a larger appropriation from them for the colored work in the Diocese, and attended to other business.
18th. First Sunday after Easter. In Christ Church, Savannah, confirmed thirty-two and addressed them and preached, the Rev. Mr. Brown reading Morning Prayer.
P. M. In St. Augustine’s Chapel. confirmed six and addressed them and preached, the Rev. M. M. Weston, the Priest in charge, and the Rev. Richard Bright, Archdeacon for the colored work, reacting Evening Prayer.

20th. Fitzgerald. Ascension Day. In St. Matthew’s Church, instituted the Rev. Frederic North-Tummon as Vicar, confirmed two and preached, the Vicar celebrating the Holy Communion and the Rev. W. L. Mellichampe assisting.
This day is the first anniversary of my consecration, and I thank God for His goodness in restoring my health and enabling me to exercise my ministry.

Issued License to W. B. Stevens, Lay Reader, to deliver addresses of his own composition in Christ Church, Augusta, during the Summer of 1909.

22nd. Officiated in Baltimore at the marriage of Joseph Maxwell Miller and Mary Catherine Diggs, assisted by Rev. William M. Dame, Rector of Memorial Church.
26th. Sixteenth Sunday after Trinity. Preached and assisted in the service at All Saints’ Church, Baltimore, my first parish. P. M. Preached at the Church of the Ascension, Baltimore.

OCTOBER, 1909.

4th. New York. Received from the Bishop of Michigan his acceptance of the letter dimissory of the Rev. Francis DeS. Carroll.
10th. Eighteenth Sunday after Trinity. Arrived in Savannah. During my absence I kept in constant touch with the Diocese and its affairs and conducted a considerable correspondence.

P. M. St. John’s Church. Assisted in Evening Prayer.
11th. Had a conference with the Rev. Richard Bright in his work as Archdeacon for work among the colored people, and dictated letters. Gave letter dimissory to the Rev. Stephen Sylvester Powell to the Diocese of Ohio.
